Story of My Work
My work is inspired by the amazing bamboo scaffolding that captivated me throughout my childhood in Hong Kong. The ever-changing skyline with its myriad skyscrapers enveloped by bamboo always fascinated me. I draw inspiration from these complex scaffold structures, hand-making all my work using silver and gold wire to create structural, yet intricate pieces of jewellery.
The Scaffold Collection of gold and silver jewellery is inspired by the extraordinary bamboo scaffold structures which captivated my during my childhood in Hong Kong. Each has their own individual natural flow and I find beauty in their repetitive and complex patterns. In my new Scaffold Collection, I have reinterpreted these structures of my childhood by folding, pleating and pinching thin strips of precious metal wire; reimagining them into more playful, fluid and flowing forms. Each unique piece of jewellery reflects the contradictions in these bamboo scaffold frameworks - they are strong and structural, yet light and intricate.
